"And yet, any sober look at Obama’s record, and the planning for the new administration, should sweep away instantly any such benign haze. We already knew that on the first day in office, Obama would overturn the executive orders restored by President Bush barring the funds of the national government from any agency, foreign or domestic, that promoted or performed abortions."

So then, WHY did most Catholics vote for O? Benign Haze is the kindest way you could've put that...sin is another. - g

Where does R.M. Schultz get his/her facts? I did not get the impression that hate was exhibited in this article. Abortion is hardly a minority position. It is the means of eradicating the minority population used by Planned Parenthood. If 2/3 of America support it then our nation is doomed. I'm afraid similar sentiments were expressed in Germany when the Nazis took over. "They are trying to bring some unity to our fragmented country". - Lee Anders

Why not just take this at face value? I think Obama really is trying to reach out and try to bring some unity to this fragmented country.

Does it really do the country any good for you to keep on hating him over one issue? Over a minority position? Over an issue which 2/3 of American support him on?

The only difference between Obama and McCain on abortion is that Obama admitted that abortion was here to stay while McCain pretended he would do something. - R.M. Schultz

This is a great piece. It really elucidates how clever Obama is. I thought Clinton was pretty slick, but Obama might be slicker.

I wonder.... Do you think Rick Warren reads this site? I hope he does. I would like to know his reaction to Mr. Arkes' suggestion about how to deal with Obama. - Charlie

Thank you for this piece. I find as a businessman that there is almost no interest in speaking about these issues in public as the knowledge base that people share is so narrow. You produce facts, and the reply is these can't be true as the result would be so horrific. Example: Just mention at a cocktail party that there have been 50 million legal abortions performed since Roe v. Wade. It empties the room. Believe me. - William H. Phelan

I had not thought of Warren's selection in this way. You may be right. However, the fact that Obama is throwing key constituents "under the bus" by selecting Warren can't be ignored either. Furthermore, the far left's incendiary response alienates them from mainstream Americans: those who may not have made up their minds on gay marriage. - Mark
