Thank you for the insightful commentary. I am miffed and a bit confused as I hear Senator Brownback has approved this appointment. I thought he was pro-llife. I understand Ms.Sebelius is well qualified for the position. When someone like Mr.Brownback supports her, after asking for money to help support his pro-life positions, it's just plain disheartening. - B.A.

I don't envy the Bishops and the rest of the Catholic clergy the enormous job in trying to make up for the lack of catechesis to those laity who depended upon them for instruction for over the past fifty years. The sad thing is it seems many Bishops have not initially learned the teachings of the Church very well. They should have to go back to school too.

The sacrilege against the Holy Eucharist that is permitted by some of these Bishops, in the name of charity is more than scandalous. - Elaine Suhre

Question: How is it that a woman who spent seventeen years being educated in Catholic schools should be so utterly uninformed about the teachings of the Church or her moral obligations as one of its members? Two possible answers: either the Church is not teaching well, or the faithful are not able to learn. May be both. - Carlos

Do you realize that great articles of this nature have been written for the last fifty years and they will be written FOR THE NEXT FIFTY YEARS. Many Catholics have an emotional attachment to a CHURCH WHICH DOES NOT EXIST. It is a business, with payrolls to meet, health care to pay for, pensions to fund, like any other business. Revenues for this business are derived often from state and federal entities which offer generous contracts. Even Sam Brownback, a professional Catholic, endorsed her. - William H. Phelan

It is sensless to try to figure how a highly educated Catholic can suscribe to a "seemless garment" theory. The reason is secular utilitarianism. The goal being political gain. The human mind is good at creating an erroneous conscience. This is aided and abetted by a weak episcopacy who prefer to wallow in the same quagmire of moral relativism. This nonsense will continue unless bishops do their job to teach, rule and sanctify. Otherwise we will continue to watch"The Decline of the West". - William Dennis

"How is it that a woman who spent seventeen years being educated in Catholic schools should be so utterly uninformed about the teachings of the Church or her moral obligations as one of its members?" The answer is easy -she puts herself first. After all, she is a member of the "Church of My Opinions Above All." - Jski
