How does that apply? Annulments have increased 10,000% since the 1970s and 90% of them that are appealed to the Rota are overturned. The invalid marriages are actually valid. An article in the 1996 Commonweal by Marian Crowe titled "Let's Pretend. . . " best explains why most declarations of nullity by American Catholic diocesan tribunals are actually Catholic divorces.
