After WWII, Israel's PM Golda Meir praised Pius for saving Jews during the conflict. The Chief Rabbi of Rome actually converted to the Catholic Church with many of his flock. One wonders why this saintly man was so attacked; but then it would not be the first time a saintly person incurred vitriol on behalf of an agenda. His encyclical has meaning in our own times as the new collectivists and statists twist our constitution to their agendas at the expense of "First Principles."
