Obama deserves no pass

Mr. Wood makes some salient points but I don't think one can square Obama's pro-war policies and condemn his pro-abortion stance. Slaughter of the innocents is slaughter, whether of the unborn or unborn, One finds little basis for a "just war" these days as aggression fostered by the U.S. government continues unabated worldwide. The so-called "War on Terrorism" is designed to mask U.S. atrocities, which continue under the Nobel Peace winner, There is no such thing as a good war or a bad peace. - Joseph

Solidarity?

I wonder how the Vatican viewed the billion condoms and doses of Depro-Provera that the Bush Administration sent to Africa from 2001 through 2009, with nary a veto from the White House?

For another view, consider this: "Bishop Joseph Shpandeni Shikongo of Capra, Namibia, said condoms spread a “secular and relativistic vision of sexuality” and “encourage promiscuity,” thus increasing the spread of AIDS."

Solidarity, anyone?

This Republic seems to be far adrift from what the founding fathers had in mind. Instead of the populace telling the government what they wanted, the government tell us what is right. The principle of solidarity has been prostituted with an anti-life agenda. Would the Vatican have approved of appeasement of the totalitarian regimes of the 20th century? One must wonder if the Vatican is a little top heavy with liberal Europeans just a bit tainted with anti-Americanism. Negotiate yes, but beware! - Willie

Abortion is the payout to a bet that one can have sex as a diversion - divorced from procreation. The primacy of sex in the secular worldview distorts social intercourse at all levels: easy divorce; cohabitation without marriage; gender roles; the prevalence of STDs; the requirement for enhanced welfare to support the resulting single parent household; and on and on. The price of cheap sex turns out to be rather high. - Watcher
