Punishing Out-of-Wedlock Pregnancies is Pro-Abortion

Moynihan was assaulted…for leaving the "impression that lower-class black women having babies out of wedlock were irresponsible." That quote suggests that such women should have aborted their babies, instead of allowing them to be born. I must consider it pro-abortion to treat the pregnancy and childbirth themselves as the problem, rather than the prior sexual activity. For this reason, I must consider family caps, provisions where welfare payments are not increased for additional children born to welfare mothers, to be pro-abortion. - blue8064

Excellent article Mr. Marlin! I can only imagine how this will sound to the precious crowd. I love the word "crypto-racist". Anything can be atributed to race if one is cleverly stupid enough. These profound insights would be viewed as "racist" by most "university educated" people. Thanks so much for putting this out in front of us, especially the line that many of these problems are really "indications of a subversion of a natural order." Very true indeed!
Understating the Case

I would humbly suggest, given the scale of the recent legislative actions, led by the Obama administration, that Mr. Marlin's assessment that "the results are not likely to be pretty" constitutes a serious understatement of the economic and social risks to which the nation is being exposed by the current administration.

Welfare State

Mr. Marlin's article and thoughts are excellent, especially highlighting the importance of Moynihan's groundbreaking document. I teach at a charter school in Cleveland, Ohio and it is one of the top schools in the state (private, charter, or public). Even with that being the case, family life is non-existent. The school is the only place that provides students with a sense of community and stability. However, it is not enough. I am more convinced now than ever before of the absolute necessity of the family as the basis for any true, free, and good society. Thanks again for the article. - Brian Jones

The Social Assistance State Writ Large

Thanks for reminding us of the work of Daniel Patrick Moynihan. If anyone ever wondered what the Social Assistance State would look like if government benevolence were unrestrained, complete with government health care, housing, welfare, etc, they could easily be directed to the large Western Indian reservations. Here, the experiment of the Social Assistance State has been in full bloom aided by corruption that attends casino gambling. It is not a pretty sight. The advocates of the Social Assistance State should take a look. - Ray Hunkins
