A question was raised by "Tom" about the source for James Wilson's lines on the law protecting the child in the womb. They are found in his Lectures on Law, and in the lecture titled "On the Natural Rights of Individuals." There are several editions, including a new one by the Liberty Fund. The citation I have immediately at hand is is from the edition of The Works of James Wilson (Harvard University Press, 1967), Vol II, pp. 585, 591. - Hadley Arkes

Saying that safeguards for individual liberty do not have intrinsic worth is not saying that liberty has no intrinsic worth. It is simply avoiding the peril of mistaking a societies political organization for a society.

I say money has no intrinsic worth quite frequently. That is obvious when you think of it; you can't hammer nails with a wad of cash. What money is for is buying hammers. Money is a commercial convenience used for the purpose of facilitating trade, and thus increasing the value of other commodities. Likewise safeguards for liberty make liberty more, well, safe.

Since English Common Law, and not Natural Law, is the legal force behind our Constitution, it seems that appeals to the former rather than the latter should have standing. When was the last time that an appeal to Natural Law had any bearing in a Common Law courtroom? - Ioannes Andreades

"“when the infant is first able to stir in the womb.” That line, too, is likely to be omitted from any speech by President Obama."

He has already said that such questions are "above his pay grade." - Louise

I think they're more experienced with the way the other One's power works...you do what you know I guess.

That's what happens when you're raised in a public educational system that tells you anyone who claims to want to follow God is evil and Satan doesn't exist so it's ok to be lusty and anything else cause don't worry none of that really counts as long as you feel good about yourself.

Then they believed in demon possessed children once we took their advice. - Jacob

President Obama's "deletion" of the Creator is due to much more than the President's unwavering support for all abortions, both here and overseas. President Obama is a Leftist, and for the Left, there are no rights not conferred by the State. Combine his Leftism with his decades of involvement with Black Liberation Theology, and you start to glimpse the heights of tyranny our Chief Executive's political ideology is willing to accept. - Mark
