Dear Hadley, Your words are beautifully rendered, of course, but also deeply moving. I couldn't help but think of your recent baptism and the courage it must have taken.

Adverting to Lincoln's argument is brilliant! ANYTHING we can adduce to place this matter firmly on grounds of reason alone is helpful. And yet I wonder if reason alone will ever get us to where we want to go? I think of Thomas More's line in "A Man For All Seasons:" "Well...finally...it isn't a matter of reason; finally it's a matter of love." - Martha Rice Martini
