I lived and worked in New York for 18 years which included graduating from law school (there are few institutions in America as morally squalid as a law school on bioethical issues). I was pro-choice when I moved there but began to change my mind for a variety of reasons. When I worked at the William Morrow publishing house, I discovered that there was an abortion clinic around the corner from the offices. How? I saw Catholics, mostly women, praying the rosary outside every weekend. By the end of the 80s, I was pro-life and grateful for such leaders as John Cardinal O'Connor and yes those women at prayer on their knees. But, New York seemed then, as it does now, a city determined to destroy itself. The 80s and 90s were also the era of the AIDS epidemic -- a history no longer told or acknowledged. The city lives in a haze of the culture of death in almost every way. Unfortunately, I seemed to meet too many Catholics complicit in this culture in publishing as well as in law school. It would be many more years before I became a Catholic . The Church is the main bulwark against this culture. I wish I could believe that evangelical Christianity will remain faithful. But a recent interview in Christianity Today with former Secy of State Condoleeza Rice was not encouraging. The interviewer let pass her too typical attitude toward abortion. I like to think that no Catholic publication would do likewise. We are in as grim and enduring a struggle as anything William Wilberforce or Frederick Douglas endured. Sadly, Black and Hispanic political and religious leadership are no less complacent than institutional America in general including unions, schools, colleges, graduate schools, the Demoratic Party, Libertarians, the AMA, ABA, NOW, NARAL, HRC the UAW, SEIU, mainstream Protestantism among others. We live under a dark cloud indeed. - Graham Combs

"The breakdown by minority groups in New York is frightful. The abortion rate for African-Americans is 60 percent and for Hispanics 41 percent. The City’s poorest borough, the Bronx, had the highest number of abortions, followed by Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and Staten Island. An alarmed Rev. Ruben Diaz, Sr., a state senator from the Bronx, warned a group of ministers that abortion is an attack on minorities: 'They are killing black and Hispanic children.'"

Of course they, Rev. Diaz. That's been the eugenics plan all along. Abortion and other "reproductive services" are at their root racist and anti-poor. - Mark

Grist for Voltaire: A city bans trans-fats, tobacco and is working on salt in an effort to save lives but is the most liberal when it comes to killing babies. Meanwhile taxpayers shell out more than $300 million a year to support Planned Parenthood. Which are two more reasons why man, supposedly the highest creature in the order of things, is the worst and doesn't deserve salvation.

Surely, we are living in the times of child sacrifice to the Demon. His name was formally known as Baal-Now he is called Choice.
Again, i am reaching out to all my family at TCT- readers & writers alike: please join me in fasting this Friday, Feb 11th, Our Lady Of Lourdes for the intention of Life in America and the World, for our Legislators who are fighting this battle against the tide, for those who are blind or arrogant in their position to have a conversion of heart, for God's Mercy to pour out and renew us. He longs to cover us in His Precious Blood- instead our world bathes in the blood of these innocents.
"Some evil spirits are only cast out through prayer and fasting."
Dear Mother of Life, pray for us; embrace Life for us, pray Your Fiat and Magnificat in our hearts. We have no wine! We need Your Motherly intercession...Jesus, I trust in YOU. - debby
