Mr. Royal, your one of my favorite writers here at The Catholic Thing, a site that I love to visit daily, some of the best Catholic commentary is on display here! This site really is a treasure! Which only makes it all the more painful that I am unable to donate to theThing. This will not always be the case. Those who cant afford to pay now can help in other ways, like through prayer, and spreading the news of the Catholic Thing to their parish, ect.

With that said, keep on fighting the good fight Mr. Royal and company!

P.S. TCT now on Saturday and Sunday as well?! My prayers have been answered! - Aeneas

It is telling that you locate the origins of the decline in Aerica's sense of itself with Vietnam. What, after all was that all agbout about? It was about the forced spread of Communism. the systematic spreadiing of self-hatred amoung Americans and other Westerners by the coviet Union began long before the War in Vietnam. It had a respite during World War II ONLY becuase the US fighint on the same side of the as the Soveits. As soon as that War was over, the USSR and its stateisde acolylte began to denounce the Marhall PLan as imperialsm and ramped up their campaign to destory Christian civilization through the spreading of pseudo-sceintific proofs of the nonexistacne of God, the writing history that empahized only the bad parts of American history, and the infiltration of our seminaries, Catholic and Protestatn alike, to repalce the idea of eteranl salvation with the ideals of materialistic social justice, which, of course, inlcues the removal of all oppressive sexual taboos. The promotion of the idea that the US is an oppressvie, exploitivee, racist, imperialist country had already become all the rage among our intellectual elites several years before America's invovlment in Vietnam; the Reds were simply in a position to call uopon allthe power base that thye had built, with no samll aamount of hel, I must add, from dupes at Catholics colleges. I fully expect to hear from some of them soon. I humbly ask anyone who is thinking of calling be a McCathyist to take me ask yourself why you think Owen Lattimore was innoceet. - Thomas C. Coleman, Jr.

Seems to me, Mr. Royal, that the kind of thinking that promotes American "exceptionalism" is not much different than that mindset of Nazi Germany which saw itself as superior to the rest of the word.

Doesn't it say in the Bible that God is "no respecter of persons"?

And, who, by the way, "anointed" America to play "an exceptional role."?

"Keeping the cause alive in publications like [The Catholic Thing]is important...." I couldn't agree more. My check, in honor of Fr. Schall, is in the mail. - Ray Hunkins
