I'd like to thank Ray Hunkins for bringing that news of Dave Shippers, who was a fine ally for our friend, Henry Hyde. I didn't know that Dave was familiar with that book; he never mentioned it to me, and this is nice to hear. My wife and I were just recalling Dave a while ago, and wondering--to put this delicately--whether he was still with us and how he was doing. Perhaps if anyone could tell us, he could send me a note at hparkes@amherst.edu. And thanks again for this remembrance of Dave Shippers. - Hadley Arkes

Excellent. I work in rural America and meet an endless stream of abused and broken-hearted women: tattoos; tobacco; too much drinking; obesity; abusive and lazy boy friends and husbands; etc. I would be interested in a book from Dr. Arkes about how natural law can apply in my life. How can I use these theoretical concepts? - Dan Deeny

Professor Arkes, First Things has had a profound and positive influence. That venerable Chicago attorney, David Shippers, sent me my copy many years ago. The ideas contained therein set me on a journey that continues."Thanks" seems insufficient, but I offer it anyway. - Ray Hunkins
