Was brought up Catholic, went to Catholic school, and turned my back on Catholisism after accepting Christ in a non-demoninational Christian church. Had a tragedy occur in my life some years ago, and my independent attempts to cope have failed me. Watched Fr. Barron's Catholicism all day today, feel like the prodigal son, have come home.

Disenfranchised by the Catholic Church's strict dogma during my youth (harsh words about non-Catholics, warnings about the sin of self-discovery and self-pleasuring, and a host of other thou-shalt-nots concocted by unhappy nuns), I left the Church to join the now-fractured Episcopal Church which steadfastly subscribes to liberal political sway (TEC). Disenfranchised by the TEC, and unsure to what degree traditional Episcopal Orthodoxy will survive, I am considering a return to the Catholic Church. If we are to succeed in turning this country around, it must start with faith-based initiatives as a counter to what the government seeks to control and administer. I will watch for announcement of the planned broadcasts. - Lauraiza

I fear some non-believers will think that by adopting Catholicism they can "become God". Perhaps it would be well to insert the fact that this is an on-going transformation, not achieved completely here on earth, lest the world be overrun with Shirley McLaines. - Lorraine Mileham

The more I learn about my Catholic faith, the more I realize I don't know. If this project is half as effective as it purports to be, I look forward to seeing the DVD series along with my fellow Catholic friends. If we are to succeed at warding off Satan, we need all the ammunition we can get. - David Rohr

I share Brad Miner's excitement. This series is one of the beat things to happen in the U.S. Church since I was ordained in 1972 - Fr. Fergus Monaghan

Hi Jess--You might want to ask your parish to buy a copy of the whole series. That's what my parish is doing. - Dave

At first I thought it would be awesome to air on EWTN, then I realized that it would reach a much broader audience on PBS. - Sheila

Dear Mr. Miner
In the paragraph "Galilee, Rome....and those who marvel at St. Peter's etc." could you add the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, D.C.? Thank you for a great article - Nancy Marie O'Malley

I get excited whenever I read about this huge project by my own favorite homilist, Fr. Robert Barron. But darn it, this poor retiree on fixed income does not have some spare change, lots of spare change, to buy the DVD. Got to wait for EWTN to broadcast it. - Jess

I have heard Fr. Barron speak on cds passed on to me. We need more priests like him willing to speak out loud and clear on the truths of the Catholic Faith. - Ruth Applegate

Nice article. I was afraid when I saw the link with "Catholicism" in quotation marks that it was saying Fr. Barron wasn't actually Catholic. Phew! - Jeanne G.

Civilisation first aired in 1969 [Corrected, Ed.], not 1963. Also, while Bronowski's Ascent of Man was a personal view, Kenneth Clark was the one who first used the term for his Civilisation. - Paul
