brad! you always teach me a little something! i had been under the impression (obviously from a flawed source- i have to check on that reference) that Lincoln had been the first President to recall the US Diplomat to the Vatican, re-instated by the great Reagan. i had NO IDEA he was so open to Catholics. thank you! - debby

It's always interesting watching narcissists pat themselves on the back, telling themselves how brave they are to condemn narcissism in others. "Narcissist in Chief"? Carry on! It's fun to watch you guys. - bob

Thank you for the excellent review of Mr. Marlin's book. With the dumbing down of the American educational system, I wonder how many people under the age of 50 or even 60 will understand the historical/literary reference of the image on the cover.

"What these critics fail to grasp is that bishops, as shepherds, have a duty to their flocks to offer guidance on the Church’s moral teachings."

What critics fail to grasp? Heck! how can critics grasp what bishops themselves fail to grasp? It has been my experience, however, that, even when bishops do grasp the message, they overestimate their powers of persuasion. It might help if mirrors were forbidden in all rectories and chanceries. - Louise

Mr. Miner,

It sounds an excellent book, but I am unsure that reading it would not cause me a further loss of charity towards the overwhelming majority of those whose hats are already "in the ring."

"They also have an obligation to correct any person...who misleads or sows confusion...." - George Marlin
A year or so ago, I heard a homilist at the Denver Cathedral coin a phrase that I thought wise and erudite: " Constructive correction is a duty of charity" The idea is similar.
Your good review of Mr. Marlin's book has stimulated my interest and I am ordering it today. - Ray Hunkins
