I just discovered this and feel I have to correct this even if it's almost a year later.
If you look at the area where the Jewish vote lived in Kew Gardens and in Forest Hills you'll notice Turner won those too.

I am so glad to see this column and comments. I read Abp Dolan's letter to the pres. And came across a website called TheAdvocate. Felt liked I had fallen into a pit of hell. Scatological, obscene, hate-filled comments excoriating the good Abp. Our country is deeply divided and though we are in the majority, as Christians, the opposition are in charge of our gov't . That persecution will come is inevitable but let us encourage the Church, its bishops, priests, religious, lay to fight on their knees, rosary in hand and let them speak out where appropriate. Our Lord never held back and neither must we. God hear and help us! - MaggieMcC

Thank you,Mr.Marlin. Very interesting history of that district. Would to God that more people would read this website. And I wonder if someone could send this essay to Father Benedict Groeschel, that very dear Franciscan friar. On his SundayNightPrime TV program on EWTN he often talks about these issues with his guests and injects anecdotes about his life in NJ and NY. The Same-sex marriage vote and the NYTimes ridicule of the Archbishop were especially hurtful to him. He draws a very large audience due much to his sincerity and obvious holiness. I do so admire him.
Regarding getting the Catholic vote to pull away from the Democrats,I have my doubts. Perhaps this could be the next miracle from Mother Teresa or Pope John Paul.
But then, there's Archbishop Chaput now in Philadelphia.
And the 9thCD vote...and Presidential Candidates strongly pro-life...and... well, I'll stop there. Much to hope for; much to appreciate..your essay is one.. thank you. - Naomi
