There is no doubt in my mind that this new liturgy slows us down to reflect and be more reverent. That goes for the priests even more so. The Church had the Latin before the Council and, as some groups never gave it up, we have had the Latin all along. Nothing changed in my FSSP chapel today. Fr. Bramwell, I am certain you have not forgotten the "abrogated", "not abrogated" controversy. The Novus Ordo was a deliberate attempt to engineer the Mass in order to support a new Catholicism. Why all of the negativity? This new translation was needed to fit the Latin more closely. We are ecclesiastical beings so we move with the Church. The new translation has nothing to do with the losses of priests etc. As a separate issue: the Church is the place for the sinful. We are not a Donatist Church. - Fr. The "man in the pews" today will have an inkling of the "murky river" when he is formally introduced to the Third Translation of the Novus Ordo Missae in English. The brighter ones will ask why this is the second or third in their lifetimes. They will understand that this had to be done in an attempt to stem the losses of priests, laity, church buildings, schools and universities which have been occurring for decades.
