The attack on the Church as the Whore of Babylon has been the rallying cry of persecutors of the Church, particularly in the British Isles and in America, for hundreds of years now. The Catholic Church in England and Ireland underwent a most vicious persecution justifiedby similar wacky readings of Scripture.
