The heavens hold no terrors

We have conquered the world and found that your creation is complete,
And that the imperfect has no place among your perfected works, and
that our imaginations cannot add
A single term to this Number ecstatic before your Unity;
When, long ago, Columbus and Magellan joined the two halves of the globe
together once more,
All the monsters on the old maps vanished,
So the heavens hold no more terrors for us; however far they stretch,
We know that your measure is there, your goodness is there.
We look tranquilly at your stars in the sky, which are
Like well-fed sheep and like grazing flocks,
Numerous as the posterity of Abraham.
