Americans – by more than three to one over any other choice – say “a return to traditional morals” is “the greatest hope for the future of the nation.”
Americans’ instincts are correct. If we think of our nation as a business facing serious difficulties, then our core values – those present at our country’s founding, present in President Kennedy’s inaugural speech 50 years ago, and present today as the consensus of the American people – are indeed the way forward. These “family values” or “traditional morals” are indeed our country’s best chance for moving forward and for recovering in our institutions the values present in our homes, the values that have made this nation great.
