Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, president of the Italian bishops’ conference, has said that Italy’s new law on civil unions makes same-sex marriage the law of the land, leaving many without hope — in a land in which last year there were “against 653,000 deaths [just] 488,000 births while 100,000 Italians left the country.”
