“Silence” actor did Spiritual Exercises

Andrew Garfield, the British actor who plays the lead in Silence, the new film about the early Jesuit missionaries in Japan, grew up nominally Jewish in England, but studied and actually underwent St. Ignatius of Loyola’s month-long  Spiritual Exercises to prepare himself for the role.  ^[1]
