Judge Gorsuch on assisted suicide

Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch made a crucial ethical distinction in his response to questions about doctor-prescribed suicide during his confirmation hearing. Asked about end-of-life care in the case of a terminal patient enduring unbearable pain, he made clear that he understood the ethical difference between directly ending someone’s life, which is not permissible, and treating a patient’s pain in a way that as a secondary effect may hasten death.  [1]
