Juan Ponce de León may have been looking for the Fountain of Youth, but the name he gave to what would become America’s 27th state,La Florida, actually derives from the the fact that he came to the peninsula on Palm Sunday, 1513, the holiday traditionally called Pascua Florida (meaning “Flowery Easter”).
