In a statement, the Mindanao hierarchy supported a declaration of martial law following an attempt by a band of Islamic gunmen to seize a city in the region. “At present” the bishops wrote, “we simply do not have solid and sufficient facts to absolutely reject the declaration of martial law as morally reprehensible.”
