One of the most closely watched elections during this week’s fall assembly of the U.S. bishops will be over who is chosen as the head of the pro-life committee. Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City is up against Cardinal Blase Cupich to replace outgoing chairman Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York. The election is viewed by many as a referendum on both the conference’s approach to pro-life policies and Pope Francis.
