Pope expresses reform frustrations

In his annual address to the Roman curia yesterday, Pope Francis complained of “betrayers of trust,” whom he called “small circles” within the system seeking patronage and influence. And the Holy Father quoted a 19th-century papal official, who said: “Implementing reforms in Rome is like cleaning the Egyptian Sphinx with a toothbrush.” ^[1]
