Tom Wolfe has passed away. He was the only conservative writer to achieve great popularity and a degree of respect in recent years, though not the honors that signal acceptance in the halls of prestige. In The Right Stuff, especially in his portrait of Chuck Yeager, Wolfe provided a portrait of moral manliness that endures, despite it’s unpopularity in those same halls of prestige.
