Sins that demand justice

As American archbishops issue statements about the McCarrick affair, it becomes clear that most such responses fall short in restoring our shepherds’ tattered credibility, or inspiring the conversion of heart that will transform the Church. As moral theologian Janet Smith says, talk of new high standards is inadequate. After all, “High standards are in the Gospel, so I don’t quite know why there is a need to revise standards for behavior.”
