Pope Francis does not like the phrase in the Lord’s Prayer which states “. . . lead us not into temptation,” because — he believes — God would not do that. So the French and now the Italians have embraced the change to “do not abandon us to temptation.” But to be strictly logical, if God cannot “lead” us into temptation, it is not clear why he should instead be allowed to “abandon us” to it.
