German party elects Catholic leader

Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer was named the new leader of Germany’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) at a recent special party conference. While often characterized as a “staunch” or “devout” Catholic, AKK, as she is known, is a married mother of three who opposes same-sex marriage but has been a vocal supporter of female ordination. [1]
