On the last day of the pope’s visit to Eastern Europe, he beatified seven bishops of the Eastern rite church who refused to abandon their faith under the real vampires, the communist dictatorship, which was overthrown in 1989. “These pastors,” Pope Francis said, “martyrs for the faith, re-appropriated and handed down to the Romanian people a precious legacy that we can sum up in two words: freedom and mercy.”
