Legal suicide’s rising tideRichard M. Doerflinger, Public Discourse

The more states that enact laws permitting assisted suicide, the more sick and elderly people will believe the physicians who tell them death by overdose will end their problems. In fact, to kill oneself is, objectively, as much an act of disrespect against the gift of life as to kill someone else. St. Augustine addressed this question seventeen centuries ago, and Christians’ answer to the question “whose life is it anyway?” is that it belongs to the Creator, and we are called to respect and care for it.
