An early Renaissance masterpiece, “Christ Mocked,” by the 13th-century Florentine painter Cimabue (chee-ma-BU-ay) has been discovered in a kitchen on the outskirts of a town north of Paris, where it might have been discarded during a house clearance if an auctioneer had not spotted it. The 700-year-old masterpiece hung in the kitchen above the hotplate used for cooking.
