The debate goes on about John Henry Newman’s “liberalism,” even Modernism. Some would like to see him as seeking accommodations with the secular world, especially as they relate today to sodomy, concubinage, contraception, and abortion. But Newman would never have shown the least sympathy with such an impious project.
