The new head of the German Bishops’ Conference has said he wants eventual permission from Rome to ordain women deacons. Bishop Georg Bätzing of the Limburg diocese called on bishops and laity to unite in a “very strong voice” in a an ongoing synodal path to force Vatican’s hand.
