It’s not hate to tell the truth
Mary Rice Hasson, EPPC
Friday, June 19, 2020
J.K. Rowling, the author of the bestselling “Harry Potter” series, is the target of massive social media attack. Her social media sin? A witty tweet noting that the word for “people who menstruate” is “women,” followed by a bold essay insisting “sex is real” and only females are women. She also tweeted: “If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth.”
