Although we live in cynical times, many people still hold a highly idealistic view of marriage: that it should be romantic, joyful, loving, and happy all the time. Trouble is that’s not the way things work, and when couples want their marriage to be ideal, but then experience ordeal, they want a new deal. But struggles and irritations are often opportunities to grow and to learn what forgiveness, patience, and suffering are all about.
