The 2018 Vatican-China deal, the contents of which remain secret, will be renewed, according to the Cardinal Secretary of State. The deal is described by some as akin to “Ostpolitik,” the failed Soviet-era agreement to muffle criticism of communism, that was rejected by St. John Paul II.
