In Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis argued that it’s unacceptable to say Jesus was just a “great teacher,” since He made clear he is the Son of God. “He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to,” Lewis wrote. And this the very argument put forth by Aquinas in Lectura super Ioannem — 700 years before Lewis.
