Limits on attendance at church services during the pandemic may seem reasonable, but not for Catholics for whom access to the sacraments isn’t a mere corollary of the freedom of assembly but an essential attribute of the right to religious freedom. And governments are showing their willingness to marginalize faith as undemocratic.
