Pope admits women to some ministerial roles

Pope Francis has changed canon law to officially allow lay women to perform tasks during Mass, but stressed the move was not a precursor to a female priesthood. Although it has been common practice for women to lector at Mass and to act as altar servers, the change in canon law means bishops may no longer prevent women within their dioceses from taking on those roles.
