Next Wednesday, Lent begins with the distribution of ashes. Don’t be surprised if, in place of a smudge on the forehead, the priest sprinkles the ashes on your head instead. There will also be a subtle change in the wording of the Ash Wednesday Mass. We used to hear reference to Jesus “and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever,” but, as of Wednesday, that “one” will be dropped in order to emphasize that Jesus is God. [1]
