The Irish government insists that it is an offense for a priest to celebrate a public Mass unless it is for a funeral or a wedding. The government says it is also an offense for a parishioner to leave his home to attend Mass. The government is adamant that it is unlawful and that criminal penalties therefore apply. [1]
