When a Catholic leaves the Church because he is scandalized by heresy, sexual abuse, and the like, this is like fleeing the scene when one’s mother is being attacked, lest one suffer harm oneself. That the Church is flawed no one can doubt, but the Church is also right in its theology and practice.
