This is what troubles me about Pope Francis. I really do not care much about his shoot-from-the-hip comments on airplanes or his gyrating disciplinary decisions. What I care about is that he seems to be dousing those flickering combustibles with kerosene and tossing in a lit match. What is at stake here is whether or not the supernatural regime of grace instituted by Christ’s Incarnation is truly and really efficacious in the here and now. What is further at stake is the true scope of the Church’s pastoral mission to call people to participate fully in the journey of transformation that this grace evokes. [1]
