Archbishop Arthur Roche says the Traditional Latin Mass was “abrogated by Pope Saint Paul VI.” The prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments was replying to a letter from the cardinal dated July 28, regarding the application of Pope Francis’ motu proprio Traditionis custodes in England and Wales. This despite the fact that in Summorum Pontificum, Benedict XVI wrote that the pre-conciliar liturgy was “never juridically abrogated.”
