We must recognize that our culture’s pursuit of comfort and health above all else is the antithesis of the redemptive mission of our Lord. For Christians, nothing is greater than the unambiguous embrace of truth and faithfulness—the kind demonstrated both by Socrates and Bartimaeus—which in today’s culture is likely to put us on our own via dolorosa.
