German demographics and the Synodal Way

The legal status of religion in Germany is far different than in the U.S., in that the German government collects a “church tax” upon which religious institutions depend. The loss of such revenue is likely a major reason (along with waning membership and falling vocations) for the German Catholic Church’s desire to change practices and doctrines. [1]
