In his classic novel The Brothers Karamazov, there are three main characters that represent the world we are living in today: Ivan, the postmodern nihilist; Alyosha, the devout Christian; and Smerdyakov, the man in the middle. Smerdyakov follows Ivan to destruction, much as “progressive” liberals are doing today.
