Black Catholics comprise a small share of black adults (6 percent) and an even smaller share of Catholic adults (4 percent), but there are still approximately 3 million black Catholics in the U.S. Many are converts. In fact, the share of black Catholics who are converts to Catholicism is higher than the share of white or Hispanic Catholics who are converts.
