Apart from the question of who should receive Communion, Cardinal McElroy rightly notes that as a Church we need to do a better job of accompaniment because “the grace of God acts progressively in our lives.” Yes, but we must address sinful choices while standing in the truth of what is genuinely good. This is difficult, especially since as fallen humans we usually favor one part of that approach to the detriment of the other. [1]
